- Reserve your “generosity” for those who have something you want.
- Assume the people around you can intuit how much you appreciate them.
- Take every ounce of credit for the things that work without taking any of the blame for the things that don’t.
- Refuse to ask for help.
- Take without giving.
- Consider yourself to be fundamentally more important than the other humans around you.
- Take forever to respond to people.
- Talk badly about people.
- Show up late.
- Develop contacts instead of relationships.
- Inflate your accomplishments and diminish the accomplishments of others.
- Complain.
- Lie to people. (This is especially effective when used to cover up a mistake you’ve made)
- Focus on the negative aspects of everything and everyone.
- Be unreliable.
This list is just the tip of the iceberg, but I can (unfortunately) personally attest to the effectiveness of at least a few of these tactics. Your results may vary, but probably not much.
